4 Ways to Keep Your Association’s Website Fresh and Relevant

Do you feel like your association’s website is not generating enough attention? If so, you aren’t alone. Currently, there are so many website and ads and marketing gimmicks and so on floating around the Internet that it can seem impossible to get ahead. Thankfully, there are some tried, true, and necessary tips that you can implement now in order to get your associations noticed, including:

1. Provide True, Relevant, and Valuable Content

Perhaps you pursue social media from time to time, and in that time to time, you may have noticed pages claiming to be one thing, yet offering another. For example, maybe you’ve seen a popular page entitled something like, “BreakUpTips”, yet the updates always seem to be about selling some product. Think about that … if you were looking for break up tips, yet you were always met with sales, would you subscribe, follow, or interact with that page? Of course not! So, the same goes with your association’s page. Don’t just post for the sake of posting. If you have nothing relative or valuable to post or link to, it’d be better to do nothing at all.

2. Work to Incorporate Valuable Backlinks

While Google is certainly not the only search engine on the planet, the truth is that it has the lion’s share of search engine activity. As such, ensure that you team stays up to date on the latest in Google’s algorithm changes. Currently, Google measures the rank of a website much the same as a group of high schoolers does at a party. The more friends you have, the more popular you are. To put it another way the more links you have pointing to your site from friends, the more Google considers you worthy of the coveted first page of search results. To make yourself popular, once again, provide relevant content and encourage visitors to link to your association’s site.

3. Get Mobile

Use of mobile devices to access the Internet continues to rise, and by some estimates, mobile has already beaten out traditional surfing on desktops and laptops. Regardless, there’s no doubt that mobile is a key factor in website integration these days. Scalable websites are a must, so ensure that your associations website is available not only for traditional platforms, but also for tablets and smartphones. Failing to do so may mean that your association is losing potential members each and every single day.

4. Embrace Video

Finally, you should embrace video content. As the world’s bandwidth capabilities have improved significantly, Internet users can now conveniently watch video content from even the most remote areas. Video and audio connect with potential members on a personal level, and failing to utilize these tools could cost you big time. If and when you do produce video or audio content, it’s also a good idea to work with professionals. Everyone has a camcorder-ready smartphone these days, so amateur-level videos simply won’t cut it or produce a professional image. Update your site regularly with professional video content for the best results.
